DRAP'S DIGITAL NEWS #11
If you are worried about the information Google has on you, relax - soon the tech giant will know even more since it's injecting its search engine with new technology. Facebook is changing how it calculates organic impressions meaning it will likely show a decline, but, hey - not everything is bad - at least you can now buy Patrón Tequila with a swipe on Instagram.
Facebook launches Facebook news
After months of testing, and after reportedly securing multi-million dollar agreements with publishers, Facebook launches news, a dedicated tab for news content. It will be tested with a subset of users in the US before a broader roll out in the near future. As Facebook says, News tab should give people more control over the stories they see, and the ability to explore a wider range of their news interests, directly within the Facebook app. It also highlights the most relevant national stories of the day. News articles will continue to appear in News Feed as they do today.
Patrón has become the first liquor brand you can order via Instagram
Thirsty Thursday—or any other day of the week—just got a lot more Insta worthy. You can now buy Patrón Tequila with a swipe on Instagram and it’s the first liquor brand to sell via ads in Instagram Stories. This capability shows how Instagram is continuing down the road to becoming a shopping platform, and how liquor (and beer) brands are ramping up e-commerce efforts and figuring out strategies to reach consumers on digital platforms.

Facebook announces a change to organic page impressions
This change is focused on reducing duplicate metrics based on the same person revisiting your Page and/or posts. That means that Facebook's reach data will be more accurate, or at least, more representative of how many people have actually viewed your content, minus repeat viewers. But it could also mean that your numbers drop.
What does Google really know?
Internet users can find out exactly what information Google thinks it knows about them - and then shares with advertisers - from their search history, including relationship status and even whether they have children. Tucked away under the phrase ‘how your ads are personalized’, the search giant reveals to users who have a Gmail account what information it has gleaned about them to share with advertisers.
Google is launching AI search algorithm
Google is in the midst of the biggest change to its ranking algorithm for at least five years, and one of the biggest ever, as it pushes artificial intelligence deeper into its search engine. The AI will better understand the context of the words in searches and it will better match those queries with even more relevant results. The new system will be applied to search results in English first and then expand.

Nielsen and Taboola recently partnered on a new study to determine the ‘Moments of Next’, the key points at which consumers are most responsive to different elements when consuming content, and what that means for marketers. The study specifically tested people’s attentiveness and emotional response to various content encounters, and it used AI and virtual reality to analyze unique eye measurements, in order to identify people’s reaction to the content.
